Characters, Setting, Conflicts, Major events, Climax, Resolution in Between Shades of Gray

Lina- Lina was a 14 year old girl who got snatched out of her home in Lithuania with her brother and mother, her dad also was deported but wasn't with them. Her and her brother stayed very strong thought the book even through diversity.
Jonas- Lina's brother who was 10 years old and stood by Lina every step of the way, through thick and thin. He had to act like a mature adult when he was only 10 years old.
Andrius- Andrius was on the same train as Lina and her family, he would help steal things from the farms to help other families live, he also gave Lina a stone that helped her get through the tough times.
Mrs. Arvydas- She and Elena got along good and had the same ideas and were calm, but she was forced to be the NKVD's servant when she didn't want to and people thought that she was a trader but she was still helping families survive by stealing food which was very risky of her because if she got caught then she might of been killed.
Nikolai Kretszky- Kretszky was an NKVD officer who seemed very mean in the beginning of the story but then as time went on, he showed some sympathy for Lina and Jonas, and even helped them stay alive by stealing wood and sending a medic.

Setting
There is many different setting in the book, the first is Lithuania where Lina and her family get taken away and put on a train and go to Belarus in Europe, then the NKVD wanted to send groups to Siberia. They stayed in 2 different parts of Siberia before they headed off to the Arctic Circle with a select group from their previous group. This was the last stop they made before the book was over.
Conflicts
There are many conflicts in Between Shades of Gray,The main conflict type in Between Shades of Gray was character vs. society, because Lina is fighting against the NKVD and the world around her. On page 171 it said “ The NKVD drew near, watching.” Lina and her family are taken from their home. They are taken to camps and are forced to do labor. One of the major conflicts that happened was the head commander of NKVD wanted everyone to sign this paper that said "anyone who signs this has to be with them for twenty-five years and if you do something bad your years go up. Also you have say that you were criminals."  Nobody was happy with this. The last conflict was the NKVD were only giving everyone three hundred rations and that is not a lot. Everyone thought that it was unfair. All their hard work just put to three hundred  rations. Also if you didn't work fast enough of hard enough or didn't even work at all then you lost your rations.

Major Events
I think a major event was when they first found their father. I think this is a major event because it gave them hope that he was still alive. It also gave them something to live for, just imagine that you didn't know where your parent was, would you want to keep on suffering? When they found their father, it just gave them a sense of hope and that everything is going to be okay. showed up at the first camp. I think this is important because they realized how hard it will be to survive and how they will have to steal to survive. They also found people in that camp who would stay loyal to them. Once they got to this camp they had to work for everything, they barely got anything in return either. A third major event that happened was when the medic comes. This was a major event because it gives everybody hope and shows that the ends near.

Climax
The climax in Between Shades of Gray is when Lina, Jonas and their mom move to another camp. This the climax because we don't know where they're going, they could be going somewhere to be killed, we just don't know. Also, they will have to endure the awful ride to the Arctic circle.  On that first ride to the concentration camp, so many people died while on that ride, just imagine having to do it all over again, going to a worse place and splitting up with people that you spent a lot of time with over the past few months and have created air tight bonds with.
Resolution

After Lina's mother died, touching the hearts of many people, including and NKVD officer. He mailed a letter to a doctor in Europe to help all the sick people at the camp. The doctor came a few months later and checked up on everybody.
